It does have a dimmer switch, but at least on my clock the choices are "Dim" and "Very Dim". It's a very cheap piece of equipment, and not worth almost twenty bucks. I know other reviewers found the display too bright. My conclusion is that probably the quality of the LEDs is poor, with a lot of variation from one clock to the next.
I just bought this clock from amazon and it looks nicely, but I got a big problem the clock shows slower about 10 mins each hours. I'm now using it in Europe (power supply by a converter from 220V to 110V), I'm not sure what reason causes this problem (different location or the clock quality).
A personal preference.I don't use the alarm at all, so I can't comment on that.My only problem with the clock is that the description says "adjustable brightness", which I interpreted to be a dial I could adjust to just the perfect brightness. It's best feature is that the numbers aren't red. Low is still just a little too bright for me, but then I put electrical tape over the power indicator lights of everything else in the bedroom because I like it dark when I sleep. This clock is simple, no frills, and has very large numbers. I can easily read it from across the room when I first wake up and EVERYTHING is blurry. It's actually a switch for High and Low.
(This clock has green numerals). Now I am looking for a gray plastic film to cover the face of the clock to reduce the brightness. If it is on the bed stand next to you, that is a problem. However, even on the low light setting, the clock is like a night light illuminating the room. The numerals are large and easy to read, and the clock works well. This clock is good for near sited people. It keeps good time, the alarm is not too loud so it does not shock you out of bed, and the controls are easy to use and out of the way of the snooze bar. I think a similar clock with red LED's is a better choice.
The clock works great and the large LED display is fantastic, especially if your vision is not all that great. However, for the same price you can get the red LED version of the clock that comes with all the same features PLUS the "Set and Forget Technology" that automatically displays the time.
